Benefits of NBR Gasket

Acid resistance
One of the most compelling reasons to use nitrile gaskets is their resistance to several different substances— one of which is acids.
Nitrile gaskets and seals offer excellent resistance against alkalis and acids, making them useful in industries and applications where they're often present.

Oil and gasoline resistance
Along with acid, nitrile rubber material is resistant to oil, gasoline, and lubricants, making nbr gaskets highly valuable in automotive and aerospace applications where they act as fuel-resistant seals.
When it comes to nitrile rubber, you'll want to avoid using organic compounds like acetone, ethanol, or acetic acid. Nitrile rubber does not have good resistance against these organic compounds.

Compression resistance
Nitrile gaskets resist compression, meaning they can revert to their original shape after pressure. The compression resistance is ideal for products that are in constant use or intended to be permanent.
In addition to their compression resistance, nbr gaskets have high tensile strength, contributing to their performance in dynamic applications.

Low-temperature functionality
Not all gaskets are made to withstand low temperatures while maintaining their compression resistance, but nitrile gaskets are the exception.
Gaskets without cold resistance can freeze and break, often leading to failures. Luckily, nitrile rubber can withstand temperatures as low as -40°f (-40°c).

Types and Grades of EPDM Rubber

01

Commercial Grade EPDM Rubber

As the base material for most of our window and door seals, commercial grade EPDM offers an excellent resistance to weathering and most substances. It is often blended with other rubber compounds, such as SBR, to further reduce the price. Extrusions made from this material are usually extruded from a 65°sh A to 70°sh A EPDM compound.

02

Fire Retardant EPDM Rubber

Rubber seals and gaskets manufactured for the mass transport industry are usually extruded using a fire retardant compound with EN45545-2 certification. This material has low smoke and toxicity characteristics to help maintain a safe environment in enclosed spaces. We can also supply flame retardant sheeting with UL94-V0 certification.

03

Expanded EPDM / Neoprene Closed-Cell Sponge Rubber

EPDM is commonly blended with Neoprene during the production of closed-cell sponge rubber sections to create compressible watertight seals that stop water ingress. Like most other extruded sections or cut gaskets, it can be manufactured into a range of shapes and sizes in any hardness between 50kg/m3 to 190kg/m3.

EPDM Gasket Applications

Outdoor

Since EPDM gaskets are able to withstand extreme temperature fluctuations, water, and UV rays, they are ideal for use in outdoor applications.

Electrical

The material's high electrical resistance makes EPDM gaskets suitable for many electrical installations.

Open Joints

EPDM gaskets have a good compression set resistance, which allows for easy recovery, making it appropriate for applications where a joint may open up occasionally.

FAQ

Q: Why are nitrile rubber gaskets ideal for sealing purposes?

A: Nitrile rubber gaskets are ideal due to their excellent resistance to oil, chemicals, and temperature variations. They also offer mechanical strength and durability.

Q: What makes nitrile gaskets resilient against oil and chemicals?

A: Nitrile gaskets have a unique composition that resists degradation when exposed to oils and various chemicals. This ensures long-lasting performance in industrial applications.

Q: How do nitrile gaskets perform under extreme temperatures?

A: Nitrile gaskets tolerate a wide range of temperatures, making them suitable for both high-heat and low-temperature environments without losing their sealing properties.

Q: Are there different grades of nitrile material available?

A: Yes, nitrile rubber comes in various grades, each tailored for specific applications. These grades vary in terms of hardness, resilience, and chemical resistance.

Q: What is the significance of superior manufacturing processes for nitrile gaskets?

A: Advanced manufacturing processes ensure that nitrile gaskets meet high-quality standards. This results in consistent performance and reliability across different uses.

Q: Can nitrile gaskets resist water and moisture effectively?

A: Nitrile rubber is highly resistant to water and moisture, which prevents swelling or softening over time. This makes it an excellent choice for sealing applications involving fluids.

Q: What are some limitations of using nitrile rubber gaskets?

A: While versatile, nitrile rubber can degrade when exposed to ozone or direct sunlight over extended periods. It may not be suitable for all outdoor applications.

Q: What are the properties of EPDM rubber gaskets?

A: EPDM rubber gaskets have excellent resistance to heat, ozone, and weathering. They exhibit good flexibility, high tensile strength, and durability.

Q: What is the rating of EPDM gasket?

A: EPDM gaskets typically have a temperature rating from -40°C to 120°C. They can withstand up to 150°C for short periods.

Q: What are the limitations of EPDM gaskets?

A: EPDM gaskets are not suitable for use with hydrocarbons, oils, or strong acids. They also have lower abrasion resistance compared to other materials.

Q: What is the hardness of EPDM gaskets?

A: The hardness of EPDM gaskets ranges from 40 to 90 Shore A. This provides a balance between flexibility and rigidity.

Q: What is the standard for EPDM rubber?

A: The standard for EPDM rubber is ASTM D1418. This specification defines the classification and properties of elastomeric materials.

Q: What are the disadvantages of EPDM rubber?

A: EPDM rubber has poor resistance to petroleum-based fluids and solvents. It also has limited compatibility with certain chemicals like ketones.
