Types of gaskets used in plate heat exchangers
Nitrile (NBR) Gaskets
Known for their excellent resistance to oils, fuels, and chemicals, nitrile gaskets are often used in applications where compatibility with hydrocarbons is essential. They offer good temperature resistance and are cost-effective.
01
EPDM Gaskets
Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) gaskets have exceptional resistance to aging, weathering, and ozone exposure. They also provide excellent sealing properties against hot water and steam.
02
Gaskets
Made from fluoroelastomer material, gaskets exhibit excellent chemical resistance even at high temperatures. They are commonly used when dealing with aggressive fluids or extreme operating conditions.
03
Silicone Gasket
Silicone gaskets offer high-temperature stability along with good flexibility and electrical insulation properties. They are often preferred in food processing industries due to their FDA compliance.
04
PTFE Gasket
PTFE gaskets provide outstanding chemical resistance across a wide range of substances while maintaining low friction characteristics.

Gasketing Assembly
Incorrect/insufficient bolt tightening
This can be the result improper or inaccurate torquing procedure.
Operating temperature
Can be an issue when you exceed the temperature limit of the gasket. Check the gasket specification for maximum allowable temperature.
Bad threads/insufficient thread length
Ensure that nuts are a good running fit over the entire length of the bolt thread and that threads are long enough to allow nuts to make contact with the metal faces. Remember to have enough thread to always have a hardened flat washer. If bolt is too short, replace with a longer one.
