Types of gaskets used in plate heat exchangers

 

Nitrile (NBR) Gaskets

Known for their excellent resistance to oils, fuels, and chemicals, nitrile gaskets are often used in applications where compatibility with hydrocarbons is essential. They offer good temperature resistance and are cost-effective.

EPDM Gaskets

Can be an issue when you exceed the temperature limit of the gasket. Check the gasket specification for maximum allowable temperature.

Bad threads/insufficient thread length

Ensure that nuts are a good running fit over the entire length of the bolt thread and that threads are long enough to allow nuts to make contact with the metal faces. Remember to have enough thread to always have a hardened flat washer. If bolt is too short, replace with a longer one.

Q: How often should I change gaskets?

A: Gasket replacement depends vastly on the product and process.recommends keeping 10% of the required quantity of gaskets on hand at all times in case of gasket failure. If multiple gaskets fail within a short period of time, then it is recommended that all of the gaskets are replaced.

Q: How should I store my spare plates and gaskets?

A: Gaskets should be stored in an area sheltered from light at a temperature between 32ºF and 70ºF. If gaskets are stored below 32ºF they must be warmed above 32ºF prior to handling. They should preferably be stored flat. If space is restricted gaskets may be stored folded in half but care should be taken to avoid sharp bends which will cause weak points.
